The agent liked the descriptive so much that he had new business cards printed up claiming to be the Real Estate "Tiger". He even had vanity license plates made up that said TIGER. And he had a big lapel pin of a Tiger made up and wore it everywhere he went. People would always ask him about the pin and the story behind it became the perfect opening for him to talk about real estate.

Getting your own "hook"

I sat down with a real estate agent recently, who was dissappointed with her web page on her realtor's website. She wanted something with more "pizzazz" that would help her stand out more. We sat over coffee and chatted about her 14 years as a realtor.

With a little guidance from me, she began to open up about what she really loved about selling real estate. And then it happened. She told me a favorite story about a client who, when she got out of the car in front of the house, literally screamed, "It's the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood!"

A lot of real estate agents complain to me that they never get any calls or emails from their web page on the big realtor site they have a web page on. And I explain to them that the problem is two-fold.

The two problems real estate agents face on the web

For one, your page on the big realtor site is one among many and the writing on it is usually the same bland “this is me, this is what I do, please contact me” potential clients can read on every real estate agent’s page. In other words, real estate agent pages usually have no “hook”, something that truly sets you apart from all the other real estate agent pages. To put it bluntly, why should anyone contact you versus the 40 other real estate agents?

Secondly, you have no “feeder page” to send people to their realtor web page on the big real estate website. How will people find your one realtor web page on that big real estate website? You have to have your own realtor website devoted just to you.

Your realtor web site feeder page doesn’t need to be more than one page. And properly search engine optimized for the local community where you help people buy and sell real estate so people in your community can find you.

If you specialize in a certain type of real estate or handle real estate primarily in a certain community, that’s how your web page should be search engine optimized. Remember, you don’t want everyone coming to your real estate web page. Only people interested in buying or selling the kind of real estate you specialize in and the location you specialize in.

And when your feeder page sends them to your page on the big realtor website, they’re already sold on using you. You can offer them all the tools of the big real estate website without worrying about losing them to another realtor.
